First Meet. Trial on the Trail at Elmwood Park. A great 2 mile race to start the season off. We had many great performances on the team. Athletes improved their times from last year and the new runners put the best efforts out front. Senior Taylor Jurgens was the winner of the Varsity race. She ran a fantastic and really smart race finishing with a time of 12 minutes and 24 seconds. Freshman Byrce Pacourek finished 6th in the Fresh Soph race. More soon about all the other strong athletes.

LT Invite
First 3 mile race of the year. All the athletes were ready and came out to race. The LT Invite is a straight up class 3A schools only race. RB is the smallest school in the invite, but that did not seem to concern our runners.
Our Freshman Bryce Pacourek won the Girls Freshman race in a time of 13:38 over the 2.2 mile race. Bryce took the lead from LT's Charlotte Lange with a little over 800 meters to go. Lange made a move at 400 meters to take the lead back. The rest of the race was a back and forth battle with Bryce taking the win by 4 seconds over Lange in a great show of competition between the two runners at the end of the race. Bryce's win lead the RB Girls Freshman team to a 3rd place team finish in the tough Freshman team competition.
Here are the other freshman and their times from the Freshman race: Mia Wagner: 15:16, Joaliz Rodriguez: 15:25, Ava Connerty: 16:22, Chloe Sadowski: 16:26, AlexaGonzalez: 17:27, AlinaHernandez: 17:45
The Open race was a very competitive event all runners running their first 3 mile race of the year.

The following Bulldog athletes competed in the Varsity race: Carmen Guerrero: 21:59, Emma Fortman: 22:12, Selena Axinte: 23:07Sam Perez: 23:09, Lena Brockway: 23:40, Jacqueline DiMonte: 23:59

Swallow Cliff & First to the Finish Invite in Peoria
Let's start off the week with a good looooonnngggg run through the forest preserve... Emma! Emma decided to show us how it is done by extending her long run by a mile or 3. That's okay when her coach caught up to her he helped extend it another mile or 2. All in a good day's Cap Run Monday. With a good week of training in them the girls headed to Peoria for a big race against most of the top 2A teams in the state. The Bulldogs finished 23rd out of 47 teams. Many PRs were set today.
I will amend this entry when I know who all PR-ed
I do know Sam Perez took about 40 seconds off her time at the same meet from last year. That shows some major progress over last year. Carmen knocked off 1:20 from her 3 mile time from just one week earlier. Lena took off over a minute from her last week's time. All freshman runners ran their first 3 mile race of the year, so PRs all around. Great day of running for all.
Go Bulldogs.

RB Bulldogs 60th Annual Invite
Another great home invite. This event can only be great with the help of the Parents. Thank you Parents! 18 schools, 700 runners and 60 years of this RB Invite. This is maybe the toughest course the team runs all year. PRs do not happen here, but runners can improve their times from last year or from previous races on easier courses. Angela P. did just that, she ran 1 minute faster than the week before at the FTTF Invite. Maddy R also PR’d by 53 seconds. Selena A bettered her last year's time by 2:15, that is showing some fantastic improvements. Lena B removed 2:10 of time from her last years time. Sam P also took 2:02 off her best time on the RB Home course. Emma B knocked off 1:40 from last year. This is a wonderful example of how you can improve over the years if you work smart and effectively. Believe in the process of our training.

Harvest Christian Academy Invite
For some reason our athletes demand that they challenge themselves at the Harvest Invite. They refused to let the streak of runners testing their limits be broken. On that day Taylor found her limits, Carmen found her limits the second she crossed the finish line and Gwen had to seek trainer’s aid half way through the course. This meet will prove to be the wettest, muddiest, sloppiest and possibly the funnest race we ran all year. There was fun had by many and it was good training for later in the season.

Lisle Mane Event
Back to beautiful running conditions. This is the first time RB has run in this race for several years and I think we’ll be back. It was a fun event. Freshman/Sophomores run 4K, 2.5 miles and it is mostly on grass. Seven of our Freshman ran in this race and they placed 2nd as a team. Bryce ran a great race and was individual champion at 16:24 finishing 30 seconds in front of the second place runner. Jojo finished 2nd for us at 17:49, Mia 3rd at 18:02, then Alexa at 18:59, Ava at 19:35, Chloe at 19:40, and Alina at 21:35. All the freshman ran a great race this day. The Varsity team for the day ran very well with Taylor finishing 2nd overall with Emma F, Selena, Sam, Molly and Jacqueline all running well and finishing under 24 minutes for the challenging 5K course.

Chicago Marathon & Conference
October 13, our Chicago Marathon volunteering opportunity we take part in every year. It’s an early morning and the team only sees the world's fastest runners for seconds, but it alway seems to be worth the effort. The XC team were lucky enough to see the woman runner who set the world record in the marathon distance, Brigid Kosgei, 2:14:04.
This was the first year the JV & Varsity Conference races were raced on different days. Our JV runners took joy in showing the rest of the conference how to win a JV Conference race. Jojo was the Individual Champion! Behind her were RB runners: Molly 5th, Mia 6th, Lena 9th, Alexa 23rd to wrap up the top 7. The rest of the runners finishing strong and close behind them: Jess H, Ava, Chloe. Viktoria, Angela, Kate, Jessica C, Alina, Gwen(Great to see her back running), Grace, Nicole and Maddy. Great racing girls.
The Varsity race was a tough race. The individual conference winner was also the State Champion in 1A. We had two athletes finish as All-Conference runners: Taylor Jurgens 4th place and Bryce Pacourek 7th Place. The team finished in 5th place this year in a very tough conference.

RB Regionals
It’s nice to be Champions! Regional Champions! We all know it was a strange week with the CPS schools not competing, but we know we would have won anyway. Bryce finished 2nd, Jojo 3rd, then Selena, Carmen, Mia, Sam, and Molly. All seven runners in the Top 10.

Dolton Sectional
Cold, wet and soggy did not stop our athletes from placing 3rd as a team and locking in their trip to Detweiller Park in Peoria to participate in the 2019 IHSA Cross Country State Championship Race.

2019 Illinois IHSA State Meet
It’s always good to be running in Peoria in November. Here’s what I wrote to the girls after they qualified for state at the Sectional meet.
Congratulations Bulldogs! All of you should be very proud of the 3rd place finish in the Sectional meet today. Because you work hard and your fellow teammates hard work, and the result of your dedication and teamwork you all have caused the success of your team this year. I am attaching statistics on the history of the Girls XC program at RB. In the 40 years that Illinois Girls XC state meets have been held, RB has only sent 5 teams to the State Meet. Your team will be the 6th. In 40 years only 42 RB girls have been part of the Illinois XC State Meet experience. Now we can add your name and your team to the lists...
51 RB Girls - 6 Teams. Proud yet? You should be. Go Bulldogs!
It really is a team that allows seven athletes to run in Peoria in November at the XC State Meet. Every one of the girls encourages the others to do their best, at races and especially at practices. Without all 30 girls the team would not be a team. Congratulations on a great season! Stay healthy and prepare for the next challenge you willfully accept to better yourself to see how great you can become.
